Dispute Resolution Process (DRP)

OASLI is an affiliate chapter of the Association of Visual Language Interpreters of Canada (AVLIC).

AVLIC expects its members to maintain high standards of professional conduct, and members are required to abide by the Code of Ethics and follow the Guidelines for Professional Conduct as a condition of membership. 

If a situation arises where someone feels there has been a breach of these standards, they may enter into AVLIC's Dispute Resolution Process (DRP). AVLIC's Dispute Resolution Process (DRP) is a three-level process:

  1. Discussion/consultation
  2. Mediation
  3. Grievance

Most issues can be resolved through discussion and communication, however, if resolution is unsuccessful after the first two levels of mediation, the issue may be formally forwarded to a Grievance Committee. The committee is responsible for investigating and determining if a violation of the Code of Ethics has occurred. From the evidence examined, the committee issues a decision.

Through the process, AVLIC seeks to bring quality and accountability to the field of sign language interpreting.
